Mozart's Commedia per musica penetrates people and situations with its music.

Between trials and tribulations, it exposes what is bubbling under the surface:

Between pent-up needs, humiliation, rebellion and triumph, lovers and lovers

alike become hunters and driven, disillusioned by fears and tall tales. "We all

move between longing and fulfilment, between what we want and what we think

we are allowed to do, between what we are and what we would like to be,"

says director Martina Veh. "I want to dare to look through the crack in the

door into a dressing room, into the boudoir of people, where underwear lies

on the floor, the sheets are still warm from bodies and where there is a chamber

pot under the bed."

The Marriage of Figaro or The Great Day - As the full title of Mozart and

Da Ponte's masterpiece reveals, its plot unfolds in just 24 extremely turbulent

hours: The shrewd barber Figaro and his Susanna want to marry. Both are

underlings of Count Almaviva, whose thirst for amorous adventures has

become legendary. While he hopes to satisfy his lust for Susanna, the latter,

together with the humiliated Countess, sets up a plot to expose the philanderer.

However, the two women have not reckoned with the charmingly awkward

advances of the adolescent Cherubino and the jealousy of both the Count

and the unsuspecting Figaro. When the housekeeper Marcellina and the

dubious Doctor Bartolo insist that Figaro owes them a debt and should

actually marry Marcellina, the chaos is perfect.
